Abscess Treatment

There are two main factors that determine the recommended type of abscess treatment. First, it is the size of the abscess and secondly it is its location on your body. In many cases, abscesses are basically drained and the patient is given antibiotics to help prevent the infection from spreading.
Before abscess treatment, it is important to determine the main cause of the abscess. If the bacteria that is causing the abscess is not determined, it might develop a resistance to antibiotics causing the abscesses to keep on recurring. This will make permanent abscess treatment difficult if not impossible.
Sometimes, some abscesses do not respond to treatment. This is very common in liver abscesses. Most times, bacteria that does not respond to abscess care is fatal. The other option that can be left in this case is to drain out the abscess completely. This is done by a doctor in an operation.
Abscess drainage is a very simple and safe procedure. There are very few risks involved in this form of abscess care. The only challenge that most doctors encounter is how to suitably place the drainage tube inside the abscess. However, if this skin abscess treatment is done properly, the abscess will be removed completely.
During this procedure, the doctor makes a cut in the abscess. This allows all the pus to drain out and the doctor can even decide to take a sample of the pus for testing. Testing is important in abscess care since it enables the doctor to determine the type of bacteria causing the infection. Once all the pus has been removed, the doctor will clean the hole using a salt solution.
After skin abscess treatment, the wound is cleansed and left open so that any pus, which is produced later, will be drained away. However, there are some deep abscesses, which cannot be left open. In such cases, an antiseptic dressing can be kept to keep it open. After the surgery, the patient may remain with a scar on the affected area.
Many people may think that squeezing the pus on their own is always an ideal skin abscess treatment. However, most doctors do not recommend this to be done without proper knowledge. Removing the pus out of the abscess may cause bacteria to spread to other areas of your body. This will happen since the pus will spread out without your knowledge. To avoid this, make sure that once you consider this method of treatment for abscesses, you must throw away the tissue you used to wipe the pus. Wash your hands thoroughly after dealing with the pus.
Standard wound care can be performed at home. The right person to determine the ideal treatment method is likely to be your doctor. If the abscess is becoming too painful or it is creating a wound, you must consult the doctor. Most importantly, be very wary about abscesses that keep on recurring. In most cases, they are caused by an underlying condition, which needs to be addressed. On the other hand, you can use dressing like aquacel hydrofiber, which completely removes all the underlying pathogens on the wound after a short while.

How To Treat Gum Disease

Gum disease is one of the most common health problems in America, yet in many cases, it is completely avoidable. Left untreated, gum disease can permanently damage many of the tissues in your mouth that are responsible for keeping your teeth in place.
Gum disease is known by professionals as Periodontitis. It is actually a term for a group of inflammatory diseases that affect the periodontium, or gum tissues. You needn’t be old to contract these diseases, either. Youngsters can also get it, so it’s best to adopt proper dental care procedures from a young age to prevent them.
If you are one of the unfortunate people who has contracted this condition, what can you do to treat it? There are several things that can be done to help rid yourself of the ravages of gum disease, but the best thing, as with many health conditions, is to catch it early. The early stages of gum disease are known as Gingivitis, and thankfully, these can usually be completely treated if they occur.

What You Can Do To Treat Your Gums

The first stage of gum disease treatment involves a strict brushing and flossing regimen. Brush your teeth at least 3 times each day, preferably four times. Make sure you brush for at least 2 minutes. Many people neglect proper brushing, which can easily lead to dental problems, including gum issues. Next is flossing completely all your teeth, including below the gum area. You needn’t really floss all your teeth, only, as one dentist succinctly put it ” ones you want to keep”. Floss at least once each day, but twice is better.
You must concentrate on keeping the tooth and gum area free from the bacteria and other pathogens that can lead to more advanced gum disease problems. Your next step is to thou roughly rinse your mouth with some variation of antiseptic mouth rinse. This will help kill the bacteria that cause the gum disease. Rinse for at least 30 seconds, giving the active ingredients time to work their magic.
This regimen can prevent gum disease from occurring entirely, or reverse early stage Gingivitis problems. Sadly, for many people, the problem has advanced to a stage where this alone will not be enough to reverse the problem.

What to Do for More Severe Gum Disease Problems

Your gum disease may have progressed past mere Gingivitis, to actual Periodontitis. This is more serious, and should be treated at once, lest it cost you the teeth in your mouth. Your first step, after adopting the brushing and flossing regimen described above, is to visit your dental care professional.
They will most likely recommend a thorough cleaning, including a root planing and scaling, which removes plaque and tartar below your gum line. The procedure also inhibits future plaque and tartar build up. You may have to start on an antibiotic to kill the infection from the inside as well. Sometimes the Periodontitis has progressed to the point where there is no other choice. Antibiotics are usually taken orally, but may be used topically (applied directly to the affected tissue) as well.
It is so much easier to prevent the gum disease problem, or attack it before it turns into something more severe. Not only can this kind of disease lead to tooth loss, scientists are discovering that dental problems can lead to health problems in other areas of the body also, such as heart disease. In addition, if you’ve been to the dentist lately, you know it is extremely expensive. That is one expense that can minimized with proper attention. Adopting the proper dental care procedures now can save you tremendous problems later. You may also be able to reverse tooth decay with the proper attention.

Causes Of Dandruff

Dandruff is a common skin condition that affects the scalp. The term dandruff, medically referred to as pityriasis capitis, is usually used for the appearance of dry skin flakes, which are actually the shedding of dead skin cells.
The epidermal layer of our skin continuously gets exfoliated as old skin cells die, making way for new cells. Our skin sheds dead cells continuously, but we cannot see them as the process is slow and the flakes are too small to be seen by the naked eye. The process which usually takes a month under normal conditions is hastened in the case of a person affected with dandruff. In such cases, new cells are produced and shed within a period of 2 to 7 days. The dead cells appear in the form of clumps of white flakes, occurring in patches on the scalp and lay scattered all over the head. These flakes often form oily clumps as dandruff is usually associated with excessive secretion of sebum (an oily substance that moisturizes the skin) by the sebaceous glands.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic skin disorder affecting the high sebum secreting areas such as the scalp, centre of the face – especially around the nose, chest, ears, occasionally on the groin and skin folds. Severe dandruff is seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp, accompanied by the formations of red lesions, itching and burning sensation. Usually, thick, greasy, reddish patches appear, which have a dry scaly appearance. Moisturizing them only enhances the condition. Seborrheic dermatitis may appear in infants in the form of ‘cradle cap’. It generally subsides as the child grows and may reappear as dandruff when adulthood sets in.
It may also appear in people suffering from Parkinson’s disease or people having immuno-deficiency as in the case of HIV infected people.

Causes

Skin infections accompanied by hectic lifestyles often give rise to dandruff. Some other causes can be listed as:
Over secretion of sebum – Over active sebaceous glands that secrete an excessive amount of oily sebum often give rise to dandruff. Dry skin – Exposure to extreme temperatures often result in dandruff. Dandruff commonly appears in winter months when the skin is dry. People with dry skin are more susceptible to dandruff.

Looking at fasting, it will not do us any harm in the short term, but the question is, should we fast on a regular basis. I have tried fasting as part of a medical experiment, and I have to say that I wasn’t too happy with some of the results. The process of fasting elevated my liver enzymes, and unfortunately that means that your liver is experiencing stress, but there are other pitfalls as well.

The Health Benefits of Fasting

Fasting should be practiced out of necessity. It is unlikely to do you any harm if you do for a few days, but it may not do you any good neither. So, when should you consider fasting? The Health Benefits of Black Tea

black tea in cupThe health benefits of black tea were well known to my great grandma. This little Russian lady swore by black tea for all ailments, and I think that she may have been right. She lived to the age of 107 years old. Her black tea drinking mother died at the age of 110 years old, and we should perhaps pay attention to these two ladies diet.

Apart from a serious amount of walking, they drank 8 – 10 cups of black tea every day. Black tea was always present in our household, but it wasn’t until many years later, scientists discovered that it is packed with flavonoids. They are anti-oxidants which can help us to fight cancer and heart disease. The main flavonoid in black tea is called quercetin. This is one of the most powerful anti-oxidants in the world. There is little wonder that both ladies stayed so healthy and active into old age. Along with a diet rich in home made yogurt, apples from the garden, cruciferous vegetables such as kale and plenty of water, they had a very health lifestyle apart from the odd tipple of Vodka.

The Gift of Black Tea

We now know that black tea can help us lower heart disease, and reduce inflammation. The only problem is that it is very high in caffeine, but the health benefits seem to outweigh the negatives. Black tea can help to reduce cholesterol, and interestingly enough it does so much more effectively in men. That doesn’t mean that you have to drink 8 – 10 cups per day. My two nans drank small cups, two or three mugs of black tea will not do you any harm.

Could someone with insomnia be waking up because their brain is hungry?

How to sleep better

We don’t need to eat a heavy meal to sleep better. Most of us don’t eat at all before going to bed, but the fact is that we should eat something before we go to bed. I have always eaten before I have gone to bed, and my snack always consists of a milky drink, a couple of oats biscuits with honey. After my little bedtime snack, I find that I sleep really well and wake up feeling refreshed in the morning.

My brains has happily produced, and increased the level of tryptophan, and melatonin while I slept. I am not rested and ready to go again, but I do notice that I am always really hungry in the morning. But, even if I feel hungry now, my brain had enough energy to let me sleep and carry out the function of metabolism.
